Ashgabat, August 7 - Arzuw.news. Within the framework of the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, a high-level thematic round table on creation of sustainable infrastructure and development of transport and transit corridors was held today. This is reported by the State Information Agency of Turkmenistan.
The purpose of the meeting was to share knowledge, experience and innovative approaches for financing infrastructure in landlocked developing countries, and to consider how the global community's support for transportation can be enhanced.
The event served as a platform to develop strategies and consolidate efforts at the regional and international levels to implement the provisions of the Awazi Agenda for Action.
Under the leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, Turkmenistan is implementing comprehensive national programs to modernize the transport sector and create new transport and communication networks. At the initiative of Turkmenistan, the UN General Assembly adopted a number of resolutions aimed at developing a new format of cooperation in the field of transport.
The participants emphasized the need for accelerated infrastructure development in the areas of transport, information and communication technologies and energy. They discussed the development of transport corridors, modernization of railways and roads, port and logistics infrastructure to reduce transit difficulties.
Special attention was paid to information and communication technologies and digital infrastructure, including the development of national digitalization strategies. Various instruments for financing infrastructure projects were considered: public-private partnerships, international funds, and loans from financial institutions.
Representatives of international organizations confirmed their readiness to provide technical support, financial assistance and trainings for the implementation of infrastructure initiatives.
