Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov spoke to Turkmenistan's Foreign Ministry officials at the Yildiz Hotel today, praising the republic's activities in the international arena.
The Russian Foreign Minister noted the unique status of Turkmenistan as the only country whose full neutral status was unanimously recognized three times by the UN General Assembly. Lavrov emphasized the importance of the republic's international initiatives, including the concepts of "dialogue as a guarantee of peace" and "zone of peace, trust and cooperation in Central Asia.
The Minister also noted the importance of declaring this year as the International Year of Peace and Confidence on the initiative of Turkmenistan.
During his speech to the staff of the Foreign Ministry, teachers and students of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Lavrov shared his vision of current trends in world politics and spoke about the development of bilateral relations in various areas.
The Russian side expressed gratitude to the leadership of Turkmenistan for prompt assistance in the departure of Russian citizens from Iran in connection with the situation in the Middle East.
The keynote address was followed by a question and answer session with event attendees.
