Today, March 24, the head of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach officially decided to postpone the Olympic Games in Tokyo for one year because of the pandemic coronavirus. It was announced by the Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe, informs The Guardian.
Earlier, the IOC made a statement that it was not going to postpone the Olympics, but the Japanese parliament acknowledged the impossibility of holding the Games. Later it became known that the United States and Australia refused to participate in the Olympics.
The XXXII Olympic Games were to be held from July 24 to August 9 in Tokyo. The Paralympics were originally scheduled to be held there from August 25 to September 6.
