On December 18, the CIS heads of state held an online meeting at which they made adjustments to the The concept of further development of the organization and agreed on a Plan for its implementation. The documents adopted are important for the Commonwealth's adaptation to the current situation.
The main attention in the Concept is paid to economic issues interaction. In addition, the humanitarian sphere, security, and the fight against emerging threats were named as key vectors of cooperation. The issues of migration policy and environmental protection are also among the topical ones. The new plan for the implementation of the adopted Concept provides about 60 points.
The heads of CIS countries signed two general statements during the meeting. The first was on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the UN, and the second was on international information security.
The high-level negotiators took a number of other decisions: on Belarus' chairmanship of the CIS in 2021, on the implementation of the program "Cultural Capitals of the Commonwealth" in Kyrgyzstan (2022), on declaring 2022 the year of folk art and cultural heritage, and 2023 the year of the Russian language.
