On August 12, Turkmenistan together with other Caspian littoral states will celebrate the International Day of the Caspian Sea. This date, established in 2006 after the entry into force of the Framework Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Caspian Sea, is of special significance for the country, which is actively developing cooperation in the region, reported Vestiabad edition.
The Caspian region occupies a key place in Turkmenistan's foreign policy. In recent years, the five Caspian littoral states - Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkmenistan - have achieved significant success in strengthening international ties and ensuring sustainable development of the region.
An important milestone in the history of cooperation was the Sixth Caspian Summit held in June 2022 in Ashgabat under the chairmanship of the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov. This event emphasized the role of Turkmenistan as an active participant in regional processes.
International conferences, scientific meetings and environmental events are planned as part of the Caspian Day celebrations in Turkmenistan. Special attention will be paid to the protection of the marine environment, preservation of the unique Caspian ecosystem and development of regional cooperation.
Turkmenistan actively promotes the ideas of economic cooperation in the region. In 2018, an international seaport was opened in Turkmenbashi, and in 2019, the country initiated the first Caspian Economic Forum.
Environmental security of the region is also a focus of Turkmenistan's attention. The country is involved in developing agreements to conduct research in the Caspian Sea and improve the effectiveness of joint work in the field of environmental protection.
The celebration of the Caspian Sea Day emphasizes Turkmenistan's aspiration to strengthen friendship and cooperation among the Caspian littoral states, as well as its commitment to the principles of peace, good-neighborliness and sustainable development of the region.
