Turkmenistan will participate in the construction of a modern silk road - a fiber-optic communication line (FOCL), which will run along the bottom of the Caspian Sea. Network traffic will be transmitted from Europe to Asian countries: Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, Uzbekistan. The maximum data transmission speed will be 4 terabits/sec.
Representatives of Türkmentelekom and AzerTelecom in an online meeting at Türkmenaragatnaşyk agency discussed important points related to the construction, as well as ownership and operation of the FOCL. The parties stressed the importance of this project in terms of strengthening Turkmen-Azerbaijani relations and providing telecommunications links between Asia and Europe.
The Turkmen representatives presented to the Azerbaijani partners proposals concerning economic, technical and other nuances of the project implementation.
Negotiators also discussed the need to attract additional funding in this area.
The FOCL construction agreement was signed by Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan on November 28, 2019.
