Turkmenistan proposed to hold a special summit on the Caspian Sea

At the meeting of Foreign Ministers in Ashgabat, special attention is paid to the Caspian issue

The leadership of Turkmenistan has come forward with an initiative to hold a special summit of the Caspian Sea littoral states to discuss topical issues of the region. This became known during the talks between the foreign ministers of Turkmenistan and Russia.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan emphasized the need for coherent interaction between the Caspian littoral states. The proposed summit is aimed at intensifying work on maintaining environmental security in the Caspian Sea.

The talks paid special attention to the development of five-party cooperation in the Caspian region. The key areas of cooperation were outlined during the Sixth Caspian Summit, which was held in Ashgabat on June 29, 2022.

The sides emphasized the need to finalize draft agreements on the Caspian Sea issues in the near future. Turkmenistan and Russia agreed to continue active dialog on the Caspian Sea issues.

Five littoral states cooperate in the Caspian region: Russia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan.
