Turkmenistan to lay fiber-optic lines to Kazakhstan and Iran

Director General of the Agency of Transport and Communications of Turkmenistan M. Chakyev said that Turkmenistan plans to build new fiber-optic Internet lines to Iran and Kazakhstan, as well as to modernize the existing ones. This is reported by the TASS news agency.

To date, Turkmenistan has connections to eight international data transmission lines, including Ashgabat-Guchan (Iran), Serhetabat-Herat (Afghanistan), Kerki-Akina (Afghanistan), Turkmenabat-Alat (Uzbekistan), Garabogaz-Kenderli (Kazakhstan) and Dashoguz-Gurlen (Uzbekistan).

In addition, an agreement was signed on the construction, joint ownership and use of the Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan line. Currently, more than 3 million people in Turkmenistan are Internet users.
