Ashgabat, August 8 - Arzuw.news. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan together with the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia organized a high-level side event within the framework of the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries. This is reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
The event, entitled "International Year of Peace and Trust: Building on the momentum of SDG 16 to build peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development," took place on August 7, 2025.
The central theme of the agenda was the promotion of ideas of peaceful dialogue and multiform cooperation in the regional and global dimension. Participants discussed the importance of peace, trust and inclusive governance for achieving Sustainable Development Goal 16.
The discussion was attended by high-level representatives of various countries, regional experts and representatives of international organizations.
Kakha Imnadze, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, emphasized the key role of peace and trust as the basis for sustainable development and regional integration.
It should be recalled that on March 21, 2024, at the initiative of Turkmenistan, the UN General Assembly unanimously adopted the resolution "2025 - International Year of Peace and Trust". The document was co-sponsored by 86 states.
Turkmenistan has developed a special concept of activities and priorities within the framework of the International Year of Peace and Confidence aimed at uniting the efforts of States through constructive dialogue.
The participants of the event noted the relevance of the Avaza Programme of Action, especially its priority areas in trade, regional integration and implementation mechanisms. It was emphasized that landlocked developing countries are more dependent on transit states, stability of transport and logistics infrastructure and supply chains.
