The United States Agency USAID in cooperation with the Society for the Blind and Deaf of Turkmenistan assisted in organizing free sign language interpretation services for the population of all five provinces of the country. This is reported in a USAID Turkmenistan press release.
Sign language interpreting services for deaf and hard-of-hearing residents of the country have been provided free of charge since June 1 of this year. This measure will contribute to facilitating interaction between the population and various government agencies and departments, including notary offices, banks, and medical institutions.
In 2022, the USAID GSP Program organized free one-month training courses for sign language interpreters who assist deaf and hard-of-hearing people throughout the country. Free interpretation is available five days a week at offices located in Ashgabat, Turkmenabat, Mary, Balkanabad, Dashoguz, and Bayramali.
