According to MEHR News Agency, during the opening ceremony of Iranian gas projects on August 24, the head of the NIGC H.M.Torbati expressed his desire to resume gas deliveries from Turkmenistan. The representative of the Iranian authorities spoke in favor of restoring the Iranian-Turkmenian relations in the energy sector, in particular with regard to the signing of the relevant contracts.
Recall that the reason for stopping the transportation of gas to Iran in 2017 was Tehran's debt. According to the decision of the International Court of Arbitration, the amount of Iran's debt is about $2 billion. Before the conflict, Iran received 23 million cubic meters of gas daily from Turkmenistan.
It should be noted that at yesterday's online meeting between Turkmen Foreign Minister R. Meredov and Iranian Minister of Roads M. Eslami stressed the readiness of the countries to strengthen cooperation. Diplomats highlighted the most promising areas of cooperation, including transport and logistics, industry, agriculture and water management.
