March 5-6 Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu arrives in Turkmenistan on a two-day visit, during which he met with the leader of the Turkmen nation, Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov, and the head of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry, R. Meredov, and laid flowers at the Monument Independence of Turkmenistan.
While meeting with the diplomat, the President of Turkmenistan praised Turkmen-Turkish relations, the basic principles of which are respect, friendship and partnership.
There were also negotiations at the level of heads of foreign ministries Turkmenistan and Turkey. The parties reviewed key areas of diplomatic and trade-economic cooperation.
Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu emphasized Turkmenistan's important role in promoting initiatives aimed at the peaceful development of countries, which are adopted on the UN platform. The Turkish foreign minister also noted the importance of Turkmenistan's chairmanship in the ECO. The diplomat emphasized that Turkey is ready to expand transport, transit and energy corridors (like the Lapis Lazuli Corridor) that promote regional economic integration.
During the talks, prospects for cultural and humanitarian contacts and the development of security cooperation, including environmental issues, were discussed.
