Today, April 30, 2021, the bronze bust of Yuri Gagarin was unveiled in a festive atmosphere in the education, science and culture department of the diplomatic mission of the Russian Federation in the capital of Turkmenistan. Installation of the sculpture is announced for the International Day of Cosmonauticsand is timed to coincide with the sixtieth anniversary of the flight of the first man into space. The author of the sculptural composition is Alexei Leonov.
Russian diplomatic staff headed by Russian Ambassador to Turkmenistan Alexander Blokhin, delegates of the authorities of Turkmenistan and Ashgabat and members of the public attended the ceremony. The audience recalled the feat of arms of the first cosmonaut of the planet Earth and paid tribute to his memory listening to a heartfelt performance of the song "You Know What a Boy He Was" by A.Pakhmutova and N.Dobronravov, who knew Yuri Gagarin personally.
As we wrote earlier, the bust of Gagarin was received by the Embassy as a gift from the International Charitable Foundation "Dialogue of Cultures - One World", and the decoration and pedestal of the sculpture were provided by a branch of the construction company "Vozrozhdenie" (Russia).
