Turkmenistan has completed a comprehensive population and housing census, which took place from December 17 to December 27, 2022. This is the third census in the modern history of Turkmenistan. It was conducted earlier in 1995 and 2012. And this time the census was held in the traditional mode (door-to-door census).
But the current one is notable for its extensive use of advanced technology. Census takers used digital tablets to go around the living quarters. The questionnaire has 53 questions in total. They concern gender, age, citizenship, place of birth, nationality, education, family composition, sources of income, living conditions, etc.
The census is, in fact, the only and unique way to get a complete "portrait" of the country, the changes within it. More than 3,000 census takers - specially trained people - went around homes and apartments.
For 10 days, they collected information about the residents of Turkmenistan, their living conditions and family structure, nationality and level of education. These data will be processed and calculate how many clinics the city needs, for example, where to lay roads and build new kindergartens, etc.
According to the Gomkomstat of Turkmenistan, the preliminary results of the census will be summed up within six months.
