FAO #NERC35 Conference: Food Security Priorities for 2 Years

Turkmen delegation headed by Minister of Agriculture M. Bairamdurdyev took part in the 35th session of the FAO Regional Conference for the Near East and North Africa - #NERC35 on 21-22 September. For the first time in the history of the organization, the meeting was held in the online format.

During the two-day conference, participants were able to discuss the regional food and agricultural challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, and identify key areas for change in this area to ensure sustainable development.

Among the main issues of the meeting:

  • Adapting food systems to urban population growth.
  • Promotion of creation of farms and agricultural development in rural areas.
  • Ensuring environmental safety in view of climate change.
  • The Impact of COVID-19 on Food Security in the Middle East and North Africa Region.

As the head of the FAO noted Qiu DongyuThe main accents of future transformations are thoughtful policy, innovation, technology and support for agriculture. The adopted priorities will be fundamental in the activities of the organization for the next 2 years.
