On July 24, as part of cooperation between the State Statistics Committee and the UNDP, an online training on compiling a Tourism Satellite Account (TSA) was held in the Turkmen capital.
Representatives of relevant ministries, employees of the Central Bank, and state services (customs, migration, and "Turkmenhovayollary") were also involved in the discussion.
At the meeting the mechanisms of compiling GST by the System of National Accounts (SNA 2008) and the connection of our country to international practice were considered. The UN Statistical Commission for assessing the development of the tourism sector and its contribution to the country's economy accepted to use TSA and calculate the indicator of the direct gross domestic product of tourism.
Peter Hackl, an associate professor of statistics from Austria, who has been working in this field for more than 40 years, presented an analysis of international standards for compiling GST at the webinar. He also gave advice to the Turkmen side on implementing this methodology.
