Turkmenistan became vice-chairman of the UNECE for 2021-2023

Turkmenistan was unanimously elected vice-chairman of the UNECE for 2021-2023. For the same period, Austria will be at the helm of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), and Switzerland was elected as another vice-chairman. The election took place during the 69th session of the UNECE held in Geneva.

The participants of the event were delegates of the participating countries at the level of heads and deputy heads of ministries of economy. The aim of the session was to exchange experiences in the circular economy, setting its course for the next two years.

One of the segments of the event was devoted to promotion of circular economy and stable resource use in the EEC region. The position of the Turkmen side on this issue was expressed by the head of the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan M. Serdarov.

In his speech, Minister M. Serdarov pointed out that the transition to a circular economy based on maximizing value-added will only be possible if there is increased control over the available natural resources. This will also require achieving and maintaining a stable balance of renewable resources, which will eventually preserve and maintain natural capital, making its level practically inexhaustible.

The second day of the session was marked by the election of the UNECE presidency. The voting results demonstrated the importance of Turkmenistan's position for the participants of this UN structure.
