Turkmenistan resumes entry of Iranian trucks

According to Iranian Customs Service spokesman R. Latifi, 30 of the 770 trucks detained on April 1 at the Serakhs checkpoint because of COVID-19 were allowed through by Turkmenistan. Another 131 vehicles await their fate at Inche Barun, six trucks at Lutfabad border crossing. Mr. Latifi expressed hope that the Turkmen side will implement the agreements on the opening of trade borders with Iran.

Recall that at the beginning of the month on the border "Serahs-Serahs, a new bridge over the Tedzhen River was opened The bridge is 96 meters long. According to Mohammad Eslami, Minister of Roads and Urban Development, the commissioning of the new bridge will allow the movement of about 1,000 vehicles per day, which will improve trade relations with Ashgabat, help Iran to cooperate more actively with Central Asian countries and ensure the implementation of the Ashgabat Agreement on Transit Facilitation.

Iran hopes for a speedy resumption of traffic through Turkmenistan at the three border points - Serakhs, Lutfabad, and Inche Barun.
