Round table on climate change held in Turkmenistan

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the British Embassy organized a roundtable on the occasion of the UN Climate Change Conference 2021. (COP26).

This event is the first of its kind in the Turkmen capital on the eve of the COP26 forum, which will be held in Glasgow (UK) in November 2021.

Roundtable with the participation of experts in the field of climate change has created a quality global platform for the exchange of experiences and implementation of steps to technical support, the realization of the potential of climate finance.

The Forum not only provided a platform to develop fresh ideas, vectors of multilateral discussion, in particular on the reduction of greenhouse gases, the transition to low-carbon, renewable energy resources. The event provided an opportunity to inform about the Turkmen initiatives to address climate change, fulfillment of obligations in the format of the world climate treaties, analyzing both the ongoing work and the strategic developments.

The event was moderated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The United Kingdom was represented at the roundtable by COP26 Regional Ambassador for the Middle East, North Africa, Eastern Europe and Central Asia J. Rogan, who spoke about confronting climate change. There were also a number of speeches by subject matter experts.

The fruitful discussion resulted in outlining the general priorities of joint activities of the Turkmen specialists with their foreign partners with a view to expanding cooperation on climate change.
