Turkmenistan participated in a meeting of a working group of tourism industry delegates of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) member countries. The 16th meeting, held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, was held in a mixed format with some participants attending online. In addition to the Turkmen side, delegates from travel companies and tourism ministry officials from countries such as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Hungary, Kyrgyzstan, and Azerbaijan attended the meeting.
The participants discussed cultural and tourist actions planned for 2022 on the occasion of declaring the city of Kokand, located in Uzbekistan, as the "Tourist Capital of the Turkic World". The Uzbek side planned to hold a number of festivals, fairs, exhibitions and sporting events this year. Meetings with scientists - historians and ethnographers will also be organized.
The participants voiced a number of initiatives aimed at strengthening tourist ties within the OTG. Among them were proposals to organize collective events, improve the skills of specialists working in the field of tourism. It was also proposed to engage in the development of a separate tourist direction - pilgrimage to the shrines.
