Turkmenistan and Afghanistan strengthen energy cooperation

On August 30, delegations of Turkmenistan and Afghanistan met in the large conference hall of the Garagum Hotel in the capital to expand bilateral cooperation, TDH reports.

The meeting resulted in the signing of a number of documents aimed at strengthening energy ties between the two countries.

The sides emphasized the importance of joint implementation of projects in the energy sector, such as construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan power transmission line. They also discussed the development of transportation infrastructure and cooperation in other areas.

The meeting from the Turkmen side was attended by relevant deputy chairmen of the Cabinet of Ministers, heads of ministries and departments, members of the delegation of the Afghan side headed by Acting Minister of Mines and Petroleum Products of this country H. Badri.

In the course of the meeting the sides emphasized the positive dynamics of expansion of interaction in priority directions and reaffirmed readiness for further expansion of fruitful ties in various spheres.

It was noted that joining joint efforts in the realization of the available capacities will soon give a qualitatively new meaning to the Turkmen-Afghan trade and economic cooperation, significantly increase the mutual trade turnover, diversify its structure and scale.

The meeting of the delegations of Turkmenistan and Afghanistan was concluded with the signing ceremony of bilateral documents.

Specifically, the signatories include:

- Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan and the Afghan state company "Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat" on cooperation in the implementation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan electric pipeline project;

- Memorandum of Understanding between the "Türkmendemirýollary" Agency of the Agency of Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Public Works of Afghanistan on cooperation on the construction of facilities to be built at the Turgundi railway station;

- Working plan of the 22 kilometer part of the Turgundi-Sanabar section of the Turgundi-Herat railroad, the construction of which is planned between the "Türkmendemirýollary" Agency of the Agency of Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Public Works of Afghanistan;

- Agreement between TAPI Pipeline Company Limited and the Host Government for the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) Afghanistan Gas Pipeline Project.

Thus, the enlarged meeting between the delegations of Turkmenistan and Afghanistan and the documents signed at its conclusion are aimed at giving a new impetus to further development and expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.
