Representatives of ministries and departments of Turkmenistan, as well as "Türkmengaz" participated in an online conference on the modernization of the Energy Charter Treaty organized by the Energy Charter Secretariat (Brussels, Belgium).
Among the main issues of discussion was the protection of investments in the energy sector. In particular, the participants defined the role of the ECT in the organization of the international investment regime, considered the legal and financial intricacies of relations between countries and project participants.
The meeting emphasized the need to revise the Energy Charter Treaty, taking into account current conditions in the global energy sector. In this direction, the relevance of initiatives of the Head of Turkmenistan to create a new global energy security architecture was noted.
The Energy Charter Treaty is currently the only multilateral treaty regulating a range of energy transit issues that has been signed by dozens of European and Asian countries.
