The United Nations headquarters in New York reported that Turkmenistan has obtained membership in two UN structural units under the ECOSOC. This is the Commission for Social Development and the Commission on Science and Technology for Development, which Turkmenistan will join in 2021-2025 and 2021-2024, respectively.
Previously, our state was already a member of these organizations. Turkmenistan will be a member of ECOSOC from 2019 to 2021.
Such cooperation is expected to promote innovative development and the resolution of important humanitarian issues. This will support the economic and social development policy pursued by the head of the nation, Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov.
Since this year, our country is also a member of the Executive Board of the World Food Programme (until 2022), the Commission on Population and Development (until 2024), the Commission on Drugs (until 2023).
ECOSOC is an international forum for examining social and economic issues and drawing up development proposals. There are special commissions within the Council on specific spheres.
As the head of Turkmenistan notes, the country is ready to carry out the mission entrusted to it within the framework of cooperation with the UN.
