In Turkmenistan, topical issues of cooperation with UNESCO were discussed

The third meeting of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO, which considered the current issues of cooperation with the UN agency, concluded. The participants included deputies of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan responsible for cultural and educational activities in the country, heads and delegates of relevant ministries and institutions, the Mayor of Ashgabat.

Rashid Meredov, deputy prime minister and head of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry, opened the meeting. He noted the importance of enhancing cooperation of Turkmenistan with UNESCO. Actions in this sphere fully meet the objectives set in the Roadmap for the International Year of Peace and Trust.

The participants of the meeting discussed the further progress of works aimed at inclusion of many historical and cultural objects and crafts of our state in the UNESCO lists. A report was made on the activities aimed at inscribing historical monuments on the Global Cultural Heritage List and on the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage - blacksmithing and felt arts, hunting falcon, Turkmen hound.

The important role of multilateral cooperation on the basis of UNESCO was emphasized. Thus, this type of partnership will help to achieve the objectives set out in the Agreement, concluded between the Ministries of Culture of Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistanand aimed at the promotion, preservation, and administration of the Serial Transnational Nomination "Silk Road: The Zarafshan-Karakum Corridor," which is inscribed on the UNESCO List of Global Cultural and Natural Patrimony.

A number of other reports were made as well. In particular, on the progress of joint Turkmen-Iranian activities for the inscription of Turkmen embroidery on the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage, as well as on the establishment of UNESCO Chairs in some Turkmen higher educational institutions and the introduction of several secondary schools into the UNESCO Associated Schools system. Activities in the direction of The inclusion of Turkmenistan's capital in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (Design section).

The meeting of the commission ended with a report on its work on solving the problems outlined in the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Turkmen government and UNESCO for 2021-2023.

During the event, other tasks related to the activities of the National Commission for UNESCO were also considered.
