Turkmen athletes take part in the opening ceremony of the World Universiade

The opening ceremony of the 31st World Summer Universiade in Chengdu was held at the stadium in the sports park of Dong'anhu, the administrative center of Sichuan Province in southwestern China, where Turkmen athletes took part. This was reported by the Turkmenistan: Golden Age online edition.

The Universiade will bring together 1,000 representatives of university sports from 150 countries aged 17 to 28. The World Universiade is comparable to the World Olympic Games in terms of its scale, as about 60% participants of the Universiade compete in the Olympic Games.

Turkmen athletes have been taking part in the competition since 2012, after Turkmenistan was admitted to the International University Sports Federation (FISU).

The Turkmen delegation this year includes 24 people, including 3 officials, 5 coaches and 16 athletes who will compete in judo, track and field, swimming and wushu.
