Turkmenistan's Under-17 national youth team learned its opponents in the qualifying tournament of the 21st Asian Cup after the draw held in Kuala Lumpur. This is reported by the publication Turkmenistan: Golden Age.
The team under the leadership of head coach Akhmed Allaberdyev made it to Group F, where they will meet the national teams of Thailand, Kuwait, Mongolia and Maldives. All matches of the group will be held in the city of Chonburi in Thailand from November 22 to 30, 2025.
Thirty-eight national teams will take part in the qualification tournament, divided into seven groups. Three groups include six teams each and four groups include five teams each. The qualifying games in all groups will be played in a centralized format in one round.
The group winners will qualify for the final round of the tournament, which will take place from May 7-24, 2026 in Saudi Arabia. The seven group winners will be joined by nine automatically qualified AFC national teams: Qatar, Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia, Republic of Korea, DPRK, Japan, Tajikistan, UAE and Indonesia.
The Turkmen team approaches the qualifying tournament with a good mood after a historic achievement in 2024. At that time, the U17 team won bronze medals for the first time at the CAFA Championship in Tashkent, defeating Kyrgyzstan on penalties 7-6 in the third place match after a zero draw in regulation time.
