"Give a postcard to a veteran" - an international social project for Victory Day

From October 10, 2019 to March 15, 2020 there is an international contest "Give a postcard to a veteran". The organizers of the Coordinating Council of Russian Compatriots' Organizations (CCRCO) of Qatar have been holding events dedicated to Victory Day for several years in a row.

The "Give a Postcard to a Veteran" contest program is open to children 18 years of age and younger. To participate in the contest, those wishing to participate are invited to make a postcard, an applique or an illustration dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War and write a personal wish to a WWII veteran. All postcards will be sent to their recipients.

The goal of the project is to glorify and memorialize the heroism of soldiers during the Great Patriotic War, to develop patriotism in the children's generation.

The jury will evaluate the work on several points.
The handicraft must match the theme of the contest. The judges will also pay attention to the originality of the plot, composition, thoroughness and cleanliness of the work.

The winners' works will be printed and distributed to the countries participating in the contest. On the Great Victory Day the handicrafts with touching congratulations will please our veterans.

The author of the project - our compatriot Ekaterina Kremenskaya - deputy chairman of Qatar CSRUS Qatar tells about how the idea to organize such a large-scale social project came:

"It is important for me to preserve this history and pass it on to the younger generation. My grandfather accomplished a feat, like many others who went through this war, I don't want him and all the others to be forgotten. So the idea of the project "Give a postcard to a veteran" was born. My grandfather did not live to see the 75th anniversary of Victory Day, but there are still veterans. I want them to know that we, our generation, the youth and our children remember their exploits, remember the veterans, try to preserve and pass on the history".

To date, more than 100 postcards have already been received from different parts of the world: Jordan, Egypt, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, Ireland, Qatar, Russia, Oman, Spain, Tanzania, Palestine, Turkmenistan.

The results of the competition will be announced in early April.
