The volume of transit freight traffic between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan for the first half of 2024 exceeded 1 million tons, which indicates the dynamic development of trade and economic relations between the two countries. These indicators were announced during the eighth meeting of the joint intergovernmental commission on economic and humanitarian cooperation, which was held on Monday in the capital of Azerbaijan. For comparison, the total cargo turnover between the states at the end of 2023 amounted to over 2 million tons.
The participants of the meeting identified trade, energy, development of industrial parks, transportation, entrepreneurship, agriculture and the Alyat Free Economic Zone as priority areas of bilateral partnership.
Special attention was paid to the presentation of business conditions and investment opportunities, including the development of transport and logistics infrastructure and the prospects for the implementation of the Zangezur corridor. Turkmen investors were invited to intensify cooperation to expand ties between the business communities of the two countries.
At the end of the commission's work, the sides signed a protocol on deepening bilateral cooperation in the economic, trade, energy, transportation and agrarian spheres. The document also provides for the development of partnership and mutual investments in priority sectors of the economy.
