In Turkmenistan, the largest combined combined cycle power plant in Central Asia is located at the Mary hydroelectric power plant, the volume of electricity production at which for 2024 amounted to more than 12.7 billion kilowatt-hours. This is reported by the Internet publication CentralAsia.news.
The operation of this power infrastructure facility started in 2018. The combined cycle power plant has 4 gas and 2 steam turbines. The production capacity of the power plant is 1,574 megawatts, which makes it possible to fully supply the eastern and southern territories of Turkmenistan with electricity, and also makes it possible to send energy for export to foreign partners. The power plant currently employs over 1.2 thousand people.
Turkmenistan's immediate plans include the construction of a similar combined power plant in the Balkan province, which will help meet the country's demand for electricity and increase the country's export potential.
