Water and agricultural experts participated in an online training on water-saving technologies in agribusiness, which was organized by UNDP and the State Committee for Water Management of Turkmenistan.
The seminar was attended by specialists from the State Committee of Water Resources, SPPT, State University of Agriculture and the Ministry of Agriculture. The main objective of the event was to inform about the results of irrigation research that was conducted on 145 hectares of Geokdepe experimental fields since 2017.
Project experts from Geokdepe demonstrated the results of the research in their presentations.
Project specialists (together with scientists of the Research Institute "Turkmensuvylymtaslam", employees and students of TSAU) tested a number of irrigation methods for growing crops. The results of the project confirmed that energy- and water-saving technologies provide an opportunity to increase the volume of yields, which is especially important in climatic conditions with water shortage, as UNDP specialist A. Yazkhanov noted.
According to the experience of experts, teachers and students of TGAU, drip irrigation system gives an opportunity to collect about six tons of cotton / ha (with traditional irrigation - two tons / ha). Wheat, corn, eggplants also showed similar results.
In addition, new agricultural technologies contribute to the prevention of secondary salinization of soils and the rise of soil water.
