January-2021 was marked by record dryness in the capital of Turkmenistan

According to REGNUM news agency with reference to "Meteojournal", the first month of 2021 showed. the lowest values of precipitation in the Turkmen capital since 1891.

Only 4 days of precipitation were recorded in Ashgabat during the monthly period, and their amount was less than 0.1 mm. This is extremely low, taking into account that the January norm for our capital is about 22 mm. In neighboring countries of Central Asia (Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, some regions of Kazakhstan) low level of precipitation was also observed.

Previously, the driest January in Ashgabat was January 1962.when 1 mm of precipitation fell. In general, precipitation in Turkmenistan has decreased by 5-10 % since the 1980s. According to one of the versions, this could be due to global warming processes.
