The briefing on the results of the WHO Regional Office for Europe mission to Turkmenistan continued at the UN Office in Turkmenistan where Dr. Catherine Smallwood, WHO Senior Officer for Emergencies and Head of WHO COVID-19 mission to Turkmenistan, and Gurbanguly Ovlyagulova, Head of Dangerous Diseases Surveillance Department of Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan, answered questions from the local and international media.
When asked by BBC News journalist Raikhan Demetriye (Rayhan Demytrie) about the number of COVID-19 tests performed in Turkmenistan, Dr. Smallwood responded
We have worked with the Central Laboratory of Turkmenistan, which conducts tests for COVID-19 and we know that they have now conducted more than 60,000 tests
Also, the expert added:
The laboratory has all the necessary equipment and qualifications to perform quality testing for infections
Dr. Smallwood began her speech by noting that the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan had done everything possible to ensure that the experts were able to reach their destination.
