Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan R. Meredov held a video meeting with Deborah Lyons, Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Afghanistan and head of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA).
In the course of the negotiations it was noted the high level of interaction between Turkmenistan and UNAMAThe positive results and intensification of cooperation in the region have been noted. The positive results and intensification of cooperation in the region, contributing to the improvement of the situation in all spheres of state life in Afghanistan, were noted.
Also touched on. the issue of inter-Afghan negotiationsIn order to organize subsequent rounds of which Turkmenistan is ready to provide a political platform. Participants of the meeting expressed hope that this process will eventually have a positive result and will make it possible to restore peace in Afghanistan.
Turkmenistan also plays an important role in the economic integration of the neighboring state. The implementation of the TAPI project, construction of power lines and fiber-optic communication lines between Turkmenistan, Pakistan and Afghanistan, development of railways contribute to this. As a result, this will lead to the development of peaceful economic relations in the entire region.
The sides also touched upon the issues of regional and global security and urgent humanitarian issues. Turkmenistan continues to develop partnership relations with Afghanistan in mutually beneficial segments.
In summarizing the meeting, the participants discussed the potential for joint initiativesThe President noted the importance of strengthening mutual trust between all states. This is especially relevant given that 2021 has been declared by the UN as the Year of International Confidence and Peace at the initiative of Turkmenistan.
