The delegation of Turkmenistan shared its national experience in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the VIII Asia-Pacific Forum. The event, held in video format, was organized by ESCAP.
The delegation of Turkmenistan was headed by Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance R. Nuryagdiyev. The delegation also included heads of several departments of the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Turkmenistan.
In his speech, the head of the Turkmen delegation, R. Nuryagdiyev, told the forum participants about Turkmenistan's work in the practical implementation of the SDGs. The deputy minister dwelled most extensively on activities aimed at nationalization of the SDGs. Thus, it was noted in his speech that 17 goals were approved in Turkmenistan. The list also contains 136 objectives and 180 indicators.
Turkmenistan has previously presented the Voluntary National Review on the implementation of the SDGs during the 2019 ECOSOC-led forum in the United States. Referring to it, the speaker emphasized that the activities organized to prepare this Review allowed for an objective assessment of the progress of implementation, as well as the identification of the most significant tasks.
Touching upon the crisis phenomena provoked by COVID-19, R. Nuryagdiyev noted that the government of the country has taken a set of successful measures aimed at minimizing the negative impact of the global pandemic on the economy and society of the state.
There was a constructive dialogue between the participants of the annual intergovernmental forum, during which they expressed their views and stipulated the focus on an integrated approach in resolving the issues scheduled for consideration at this online meeting.
