Turkmenistan Approves Transport Diplomacy Development Program

Turkmenistan has approved the Transport Diplomacy Development Program for 2022-2025. It was approved by President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov during an online meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers. Among the coordinators of this Program are the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations, Central Bank, State Border Service and the Agency of Transport and Communication under the Cabinet of Ministers.

Rashid Meredov, deputy chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, introduced the draft of this program to the Turkmen leader. In his speech, he noted that the document provides for strategically significant steps aimed at a comprehensive upgrade of the material and technical base of all varieties of vehicles in the Turkmen state. It is also planned to create a modern industrial infrastructure. The Minister stressed that Turkmenistan will continue to strengthen its position as a regional center of interstate transport and transit corridors.

The program includes such tasks as improvement of the legislative basis and interstate cooperation in this sector, development of the Road Transport Code of Turkmenistan, and the effective continuation of mutually beneficial cooperation with interstate institutions.

Among the objectives is the inclusion of Turkmenistan into the Intergovernmental Commission of the International Transport Corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia (TRACECA), for which the relevant work will be carried out. The country will also study the possibility of applying a multi-purpose digital solution to improve multimodal transportation - the Global Transit Document.

During the meeting, the Turkmen leader signed a decree ratifying a number of interstate agreements between Turkmenistan and other countries.
