Turkmen athlete defeated Russian sambo wrestler Ivan Intyukhov in the 88 kg weight category. Suvkhan Ovezgeldiev is a Turkmen athlete and an employee of the Ashgabat City Prosecutor's Office.

The competition in Ulan-Ude was held under the new rules of the Combat Sambo League. The tournament was held without preliminary meetings - athletes went straight to the finals in their weight categories. A total of 14 athletes from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan took part in the competition.
