Path to the Top: How Turkmen weightlifter Altymurad Orazdurdyev became a legend of world sport

On the television program "Legends of Central Asia" of MIR-24 channel was presented plot about the outstanding Turkmen weightlifter of the 20th century - Altymurad Orazdurdyev.

Altymurad Orazdurdyev was born in 1969 in the village of Sakarchaga and moved to Ashgabat in 1982. Under the guidance of coach Brono Abrahamyan, he discovered his sporting talent and achieved impressive success in the international arena.

Already in 1989 and 1990, Altymurad became world and European champion in weightlifting. In 1992, he wins the CIS championship, but does not participate in the Olympic Games in Barcelona.

The pinnacle of the athlete's career is 1993, when he again wins the title of world champion and sets two world records. In the following year, 1994, Altymurad also wins the Asian Championship and the Asian Games.

The life of the outstanding Turkmen athlete ended tragically in 1997, when he was only 27 years old. Altymurad Orazdurdyev is buried in his homeland in the village of Sakarchaga. His name is forever inscribed in the history of Turkmen and world sports.
