The head of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjártó said at a press conference held in the Azerbaijani capital of Baku that his country expects to receive gas from Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan. The Southern Gas Corridor (SAGC) will be used to supply "blue fuel".
As noted by the head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry, his country will gain access to the SOGC through the interconnector (IGB) located between Bulgaria and Greece. In addition, Hungary intends to use the gas pipeline that connects it to Serbia. The latter is still under construction. Completion is scheduled for the end of this year.
The Hungarian minister stressed that his country has a great interest in Azerbaijani and Turkmen gas. To date, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan are working to increase gas production. It is expected that it will be much easier to get larger volumes of gas in 2023-2024.
The Hungarian and Azerbaijani sides are already negotiating about the supply of gas, although so far the volume of gas production has not reached the level required by the buyers.
The head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry also touched upon the memorandum of agreement, which was concluded between the Turkmen and Azerbaijani sides, and deals with the supply of "blue fuel" to the European territory. As Sijjártó said, this step would be a major breakthrough for Hungary. After all, it means that the country will be able to get not only Azerbaijani, but also Turkmen gas using the opportunities of the Southern Gas Corridor.
