A UNODC representative visited the Artyk customs checkpoint on the Turkmenistan-Iran border

According to the official website of the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan, UNODC Regional Representative for Central Asia Ashita Mithall visited the Artyk customs point on the Turkmen-Iranian border on March 30.

The purpose of Ms. Mital's visit was to familiarize herself with the activities of the customs post and the created infrastructure necessary to counter the trafficking of drugs and new psychoactive substances. This customs post plays an important role in the development of transportation and trade between the countries of the Persian Gulf and Central Asia.

The meeting discussed the prospects for further cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking and crime, including through the introduction of modern information technologies, the creation of interactive offices and situation centers.
