In honor of the 25th anniversary of Turkmenistan's accession to the UN Aarhus Convention, a conference was held at the OSCE Center in Ashgabat on October 21. This was reported by the Internet publication "AsmanNews.
The Aarhus Convention deals with broad access to environmental information, public participation in decision-making, access to justice on issues related to nature protection. Turkmenistan became the first state in Central Asia to join the Aarhus Convention.
The conference was attended by representatives of the Aarhus Center in Turkmenistan, members of public associations, Turkmen environmental experts. During the conference, the draft National Report on the implementation of the Aarhus Convention and its provisions was presented. In continuation of the event, the main directions of the Aarhus Centre's activities in Turkmenistan were discussed and opinions on the organization of environmental campaigns were exchanged.
