The EBRD noted the competitive advantages of Turkmenistan's private businesses

EBRD to hold a series of management trainings for businesswomen of Turkmenistan

Ashgabat, July 30 - Arzuw.news. Private companies of Turkmenistan have significant competitive advantages due to low cost of energy resources and available labor, said the head of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development representative office in Turkmenistan Eric Livny in an interview with Trend agency. Arzuw.news reports with reference to the Information Center Business Turkmenistan.

According to the EBRD representative, government support provided businesses with access to electricity, water and land at minimal cost. Such conditions facilitated the rapid development of import-substituting industries, which subsequently shifted to exports due to limited domestic demand.

The industries of plastic packaging, construction materials and greenhouse products remain the most competitive. As an example of successful exports, Livny cited the company Tudana, which supplies greenhouse strawberries to Korzinka, a large Uzbek retail chain.

Miwe Agribusiness operates a 100-hectare greenhouse to grow bananas for both domestic and export markets.

The EBRD plans to increase interaction with banks in Turkmenistan, including support for foreign economic operations and financing of small and medium-sized businesses. The Bank was founded in 1991 by 40 countries and two international organizations and operates in 34 countries. The EBRD's operations in Turkmenistan began in 1992.
