On 19 May 2020, the Central Asian Ministers of Agriculture, in collaboration with FAO (United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization), held an online meeting. The heads of agricultural ministries of all Central Asian states presented information on agricultural development and actions aimed at ensuring uninterrupted food production. They also discussed measures taken by Central Asian agriculture ministries to support sustainable food security in the current global market environment.
Deputy Director General, FAO Regional Representative for Europe and Central Asia and FAO Subregional Coordinator for Central Asia made a presentation on agricultural development and food security in the Central Asian region. In the report, FAO focused on the preservation and qualitative application of tools of interaction between agrarian and food spheres of all countries in the region.
The Turkmen side presented information on the key vectors of the state policy in this area. During the conference, Turkmenistan's successful experience in preventing the spread of COVID-19 due to the strong preventive strengthening of sanitary and veterinary control of products and cargo delivered to the country was discussed.
As a reminder, not a single case of COVID-19 infection has been registered in Turkmenistan.
