On June 11, 2020 head of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry Rashid Meredov met online with Ms. Mirjana Spolarich Egger, UNDP Deputy Administrator and Director of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Regional Bureau for Europe and CIS countries.
During the talks, the sides praised Turkmenistan's long and fruitful cooperation with the United Nations and its special units. The participants also noted the successful activities of the UNDP local headquarters in Turkmenistan.
The consequences of the pandemic, both regionally and globally, were also examined in detail. Joint measures aimed at their elimination were discussed. The parties highlighted the initiative of the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov to involve a system of political and diplomatic measures to counter such a global threat as the spread of COVID-19.
It is noted that Turkmenistan, in partnership with the UN, has developed a Plan for preparedness and response to acute viral disease. The important role of interaction to minimize the impact of the pandemic in the socio-economic sphere was emphasized. Among the measures - development in collaboration with the UN of the Plan of appropriate orientation.
The participants of the online meeting discussed a number of other important issues, including the further implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, as reflected in the State Program 2019-2025. The parties also exchanged views on the UNDP Turkmenistan Country Programme 2021-2025.
