Ashgabat, August 4 - Arzuw.news. Scientists of the International Scientific and Technological Park of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan have developed an innovative technology for production of alginate composition based on algae of the Caspian Sea. This is reported by the publication Turkmenistan: Golden Age.
The biotechnology laboratory has created a unique biomaterial using blue-green and brown algae growing in the Caspian Sea as raw materials. The novelty of the development lies in the combination of traditional alginates from brown algae with components of blue-green algae.
As explained by Altyn Rakhmanova, head of the laboratory, the addition of blue-green algae significantly enriches the material with valuable compounds and improves its properties. The alginate base provides biodegradability of the composition, and components of blue-green algae give it therapeutic qualities.
The new biomaterial has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity, as well as the ability to release oxygen. These characteristics make the composition particularly promising for use in biomedicine, where oxygen release helps accelerate tissue regeneration processes.
The main applications of the development will be wound healing and tissue engineering. In addition, the composition has potential for use in the food industry and cosmetology.
Creation of new medicines from local flora is a priority area of the State Program of Integrated Development of Biotechnology in Turkmenistan for 2024-2028.
