The World Chess Championship among cadets was held in the Albanian city of Durres from April 26 to 28. This was reported by the TurkmenPortal online publication.
9-year-old Aya Bayramova, pupil of the honored coach of Turkmenistan Guljahan Ovlyakulieva, won a bronze medal in the "blitz" format. A total of 375 young athletes from 43 countries took part in the competition. During the tournament, Aya scored 7.5 points out of 11 possible, losing to athletes from Russia and India. Turkmenistan was also represented by Dunya Ruslanova. Due to a mistake in the last round Dunya took the 7th place. The 5th place of the tournament in the "blitz" format was won by 7-year-old Aylar Hemraeva.
According to the Chess Federation of Turkmenistan, the majority of Turkmen athletes finished at the top of the standings.
