The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan reported on the results of the fight against coronavirus, as well as on further ways to contain the spread of the dangerous disease.
The Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan notes that the country's authorities began preventive work aimed at preventing the penetration and spread of COVID-19 from the very beginning of the pandemic. For this purpose, a special governmental commission was formed under the direct supervision of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. In addition, an operational headquarters was organized to coordinate and supervise the activities of government agencies in this direction.
В ходе начального этапа борьбы с COVID-19 в Туркменистане были усилены таможенный, пограничный и миграционный режим, а также – ветеринарный и фитосанитарный контроль.
The country has established a system of providing the population with immunostrengthening medical drugs on a regular and free-of-charge basis. There is also a state program for general clinical examination and improvement of the immune status of citizens.
At the same time, Turkmenistan is actively involved in combating the spread of the pandemic at the global level. Thus, in May 2020, during the Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement, the Turkmen leader initiated the creation of an international Council of Medical Scientists and Medical Practitioners to join efforts to confront the global coronavirus threat.
On May 22, the Government of Turkmenistan approved a national plan of action to combat the spread of acute infections, and on July 3, during an expanded meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers it adopted a plan to ensure maximum protection of the socio-economic sphere of the country from the negative impact of COVID-19.
The work of Turkmen scientists in this direction should also be noted. Their studies have shown that the transfer of dangerous viruses may well be due to the movement of air currents. And in this regard, the air masses formed as a result of the drying up of the Aral Sea pose a great danger. They pose a threat not only to people living in the surrounding areas, but far beyond their borders. To prevent further drying up of the Aral Sea, Turkmenistan actively cooperates with international structures in this direction. For this purpose, the development of a special UN program for the conservation of this water body was initiated.
Since July 6, the WHO mission is also in Turkmenistan, which for 10 days will analyze the epidemic situation in the country. At the moment, no cases of coronavirus in the country have been recorded.
