Memory living in hearts: Turkmenistan honors earthquake victims and war heroes

On October 6, Memorial Day, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov took part in a commemoration ceremony held at the Halk hakydasy Memorial Complex in Ashgabat. This was reported by the online news resource AsmanNews.

The event was dedicated to the victims of the 1948 Ashgabat earthquake, one of the most tragic pages in the country's history, as well as to the national heroes who gave their lives for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland.

The mourning ceremony began with the laying of wreaths and flowers at the monument "Ruhy tagzym", dedicated to the victims of the earthquake. Among them was the President's great-grandfather, the hero of the Great Patriotic War Berdymukhammed Annaev, whose fate is closely connected with the tragedy of that night.

The President also honored the memory of the fallen soldiers by laying wreaths at the "Milletiň ogullary" and "Baky şöhrat" monuments, which immortalized the heroic deeds of the defenders of the Motherland during the 1941-1945 war.

Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized that preserving the memory of the victims is of special importance for the education of young people in the spirit of patriotism and civic solidarity. In his recent address at the meeting of the Khalk Maslakhaty, the Hero-Arkadag noted the importance of developing international scientific and cultural initiatives aimed at immortalizing the historical heritage of the Turkmen people.

Memorial Day unites the nation around the eternal values of memory, continuity and humanism, which remain the basis of Turkmenistan's spiritual culture.
