Japanese government and UNOPS launch project to improve health care system in Turkmenistan

March 5, Ashgabat, /Arzuw NEWS/. The Government of Japan and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) have launched a project aimed at strengthening Turkmenistan's healthcare system by bringing medical equipment and consumables into the country. The project is the first UNOPS activity in Turkmenistan. A signing and note exchange ceremony for the project titled "Improving the Health System by Providing Medical Equipment in Turkmenistan" was held at the main UN building in Ashgabat.

Ms. Christine Weygand, acting UN Resident Coordinator on behalf of UNOPS, and Mr. Yamamoto Hiroyuki, Japanese Ambassador to Turkmenistan, signed the Notes in the presence of Mr. Nurmukhammet Amannepesov, Minister of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan, and media representatives.

The total amount of grant aid in 2.8 million dollars for the project will focus on the purchase and delivery of medical equipment and supplies for the selected hospitals, as well as providing appropriate capacity development, logistics, and management support.

"I am convinced that the partnership between the UN, the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of Japan will contribute to strengthening Turkmenistan's health system and promote sustainable recovery from the impact of the global pandemic," said Ms. Christine Weygand, Acting UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan.

 

This project will be implemented within the UN-Turkmenistan Framework Program for Cooperation on Sustainable Development 2021-2025.
