UNICEF Representative in Turkmenistan Christine Weygand addressed a congratulatory speech to the people of Turkmenistan on the occasion of the International Children's Day. She congratulated the children and their parents on the holiday, wishing them happy days, good health and great achievements in life.

Ms. Weygand also noted that Turkmenistan ratified the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1994. This document outlines the fundamental rights of children, the protection of which is a prerequisite, and which is enshrined in a number of international resolutions and documents. In fulfilling these commitments, the Government of Turkmenistan, in cooperation with UNICEF, is striving to improve the lives of young citizens in all spheres. One of such areas is early childhood development. UNICEF and Turkmenistan have established close cooperation in this area that will contribute to the fullest realization of children's potential from their first days of life.

The UNICEF representative expressed her pride that her organization has participated in the development of two national programmes on early childhood development for the years 2020-2025. Ms. Weygand also expressed her confidence in further fruitful cooperation in the name of creating a better future for young Turkmenistanis, protecting their rights and allowing them to fully enjoy the carefree nature of childhood.
