Representatives of Turkmenistan and ADB discussed cooperation in the framework of CAREC

Head of the Ministry of Finance of Turkmenistan Muhammetgeldy Serdarov held a working meeting with Safdar Parvez, director of the Asian Development Bank, who is responsible for cooperation and coordination in the Central and West Asian region. The main topics of the talks were the implementation of joint projects, as well as the potential for interaction within CAREC. Participants in the meeting noted that the pandemic had made adjustments in the global economy, so further partnership should be discussed in light of the current situation.

Among the programs discussed were those involving the WTO, as well as the Health Strategy, which will be developed through 2030. The sides also talked about road safety in CAREC member countries, which may require technical assistance to improve.

Regional partnership in post-pandemic health care, as in any other area of mutual interest, should be developed even more actively. All participants of the meeting agreed with this opinion. By implementing effective health surveillance and accounting systems, the spread of the pandemic and its penetration across borders can be greatly reduced in the foreseeable future.

At the same time, the need to form new economic corridors, as well as to improve transport connections, was emphasized. This will give an opportunity to accelerate the development of entrepreneurship and increase the number of jobs in the region. The regional macroeconomic situation will also be strengthened by better coordination of monetary and fiscal policies.

At the end of the meeting, Safdar Parvez invited the head of the Ministry of Finance of Turkmenistan to be one of the participants in the high-level meeting under the CAREC program. It will be held on May 4, 2021, during the 54th session of the ADB Governing Council. The key topic of the meeting is the digitalization of the economy and its importance for increasing the efficiency of interaction in the region.
